The film portion of SXSW going on right now in Austin, TX, this week’s Attention Span looks back at a short that premiered there in 2013.
Play House was written and directed by NYC filmmaker, Brandon LaGanke, better known for his work on music videos and commercials.
Not a bad little film but some unfortunately obvious wording in the tagline spoiled any chance at subtlety and left me anxious for an ending that was predictable at best. The acting was relatively natural, at least the extent that the director was going for.
If you do plan to watch this film, I recommend doing so without reading any more about it as any knowledge of something as basic as genre will lessen your enjoyment dramatically.
